Bioinformatics is a field that relates to more than one branch of knowledge to build methods and creates software tools for understanding biological data. As an inter-disciplinary field, bioinformatics combines biology, information technology, mathematics and statistics to interpret biological data.
Bioinformatics cover a broad number of functions for the body of biological studies that use computer programming as part of their methodology, as well as a reference to specific analysis pipelinesthat are repeatedly used, particularly in the field of genomics. Common uses of bioinformatics include the identification of candidate’sgenes and single nucleotide polymorphisms. In addition, bioinformatics tends to understand the organisational principles within nucleic acid and protein sequences, called proteomics.
