Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) – Travel Insurance Benefit

Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) – Travel Insurance Benefit
November 22, 2019AGNES JOSEPHUncategorized

Travel insurance gives you the peace of mind that you need to fully enjoy yourself while on vacation. Basic policies cover quite a lot, but they don’t typically provide coverage for Accidental Death and Dismemberment, or AD&D. Even if you have basic coverage, you could end up in dire straits if you or a traveling companion suffers loss of life or limb while abroad. To cover all of your bases, consider choosing a policy with AD&D coverage or select AD&D as an optional upgrade when comparing and buying online.

Travel Insurance and Accidental Death and Dismemberment

Since AD&D isn’t usually covered by basic travel insurance policies, you’ll have to either specifically choose such a policy or upgrade a basic policy with special AD&D coverage. This type of coverage typically provides a lump-sum payment – up to the policy limit – in the event that loss of life or limb happens during a covered trip. Should you incur an injury that results in your death or in the total and permanent loss of one or both hands or feet or one or both eyes, it will be covered as long as it occurred within a certain number of days and as a direct result of an accident during your getaway.

Special Coverage for AD&D

Most AD&D policies and policy upgrades pay death benefits at 100 percent of the policy limit. Dismemberment benefits are typically paid at a percentage, with one loss typically paying out at 50 percent of the policy limit and multiple losses paying out additional amounts up to 100 percent of the policy limit.

Considerations

Accidental death and dismemberment coverage is usually offered by trip protection package plans and travel medical plans, and it can sometimes be purchased as an optional upgrade. Please note that such coverage typically excludes emergency medical evacuations and repatriation of remains. Coverage for such incidents must usually be purchased separately or fall under a separate emergency medical evacuations and repatriation of remains benefit. Read the fine print of all policies that you investigate to ensure that you are getting the right level of coverage for your upcoming trip.

Breathe Easier with Accidental Death and Dismemberment Travel Insurance

Don’t let your carefully laid travel plans go to waste. Compare travel insurance plans to more easily pinpoint options that suit your needs and budget.
